Turn square to circle

If you are looking at the Image->Size dialog box and referring to the area at the bottom (shown in my upload) and thinking that this will make a square picture round, it doesn't. There is no option in CS2 to make a square picture (or rectangular picture) round or oval except using Lasa's method.

Even after creating a round or oval selection and copying it to a new layer, Photoshop is still going to save the file in a rectangular or square format which will include any white or transparent background areas.

In the resizing dialog box, "Square Pixel" and the options in that drop down menu refer to pixel aspec ratios not to the overall shape of the graphic.

Hi,

I have tried using Spherize which is under Distort.(Filter -> Distort -> Spherize).

But, it won't give perfect sphere.

Try these filters:
>> Filter/Distort/Polar Coordinates.
>> If you have an older version of Photoshop (or if you look on the Photoshop Resources CD for Photoshop CS or CS2 under Goodies/Photoshop/Optional Plug-ins/Filters/3D Transform.8BF) you could try Filter/Render/3D Transform.

In Illustrator CS2 or CS3 you can actually place your image on a sphere very realistically. See Illustrator Help on 3D Effects for the details.

Basically you make your image into a symbol (Select image, then Window/Symbols/New Symbol).
Next make half a circle (Ellipse Tool and delete one anchor point).

Then Effect/3D/Revolve/Map Art. Choose your new symbol in the Symbol box and Scale to fit.

In Photoshop , use the eliptical selection-tool and mark a circle around
what you want to crop ( click with shift-key pressed to get a exact circle)
Under edit click "copy". under file click "!new" and change background
content to "transparent", edit "paste",,, and you have your circle crop.

Select the area you would like to crop by placing an eleptical shape over
it.

Select the shape in the layers pallet and set its opacity to 0%.

Select the Paths tab (at the top of the layers pallet).

Click on the third option at the bottom of the paths tab (if you hover over
it it should say Load Path as a Selection).

The circle should now be a flashing marquee.

Now select: Edit > Copy Merged.

Now open a new file and select: Edit > Paste.

That should do the trick.
